Roll Out the Barrel Tour with Four Roses & Bourbons Bistro

On any given day, Frankfort Avenue’s popular restaurant & Urban Bourbon Trail stop, Bourbons Bistro has about 130 bourbons on hand. But in the midst of this plethora there’s a collection of personally-selected private label Four Roses Single Barrel bottles that they’re particularly proud of. This past Friday, our Roll Out the Barrel tour facilitated the process as the team at Bourbons Bistro selected their next barrel to be bottled. Once we arrived at the Four Roses Aging warehouse, we got some quality time with Master Distiller Jim Rutledge as he poured us samples of barrel strength, unfiltered bourbon from several barrels he chose for Bourbons Bistro to compare and gave us his analysis of the recipes and thoughts on the notes and finishes, a subject he’s clearly an expert on! It was truly incredible how each sample from the different barrels had its’ own unique and delicious character. After much deliberation, a favorite was finally chosen–a tough decision when every option is superb! The process was finalized by signing our names on the barrel and taking a walk from the tasting area to see the barrels being unloaded and dumped for bottling as well as a stroll to tour the one of the many warehouses on site…a perfect way to round out a fantastic visit.

Mint Julep Tours recaps Bourbon & Bowties™: A Taste of Corbett’s

This past Thursday, the third annual Bourbon & Bowties™: A Taste of Corbett’s, proved to be a huge success! This honorable charity event for Kosair Children’s Hospital was a beautiful collaboration of businesses within our community, featuring chefs from fifteen top Louisville restaurants, great music, and an impressive live and silent auction benefitting Kosair Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Once again, we partnered with Four Roses to donate a “Roll out the Barrel Tour”. Mint Julep Tours will be hosting VIP transportation and tour guide entertainment while traveling to Four Roses aging warehouse for an expert guided tasting of the unfiltered spirit, straight from the barrel. With the help of Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge, a select barrel will be chosen of special reserve bourbon to be bottled with customized labels.

We are very proud to have been a part of this event, and even more excited that our involvement with this donation raised $7,000 in honor of 4 year old, Maxwell Johnson who has hemoglobin SC, a mild form of sickle cell anemia. Mint Julep Tours will be Louisville Brewfest!

You may think we’re all about bourbon at Mint Julep Tours, but don’t be fooled, we have quite a soft spot for a different kind of brew too, craft beer. Lucky for us (and for you!), craft beer is growing in popularity here in Louisville, and for good reason, as we’ve got a lot of great microbreweries and specialty beer stores around town, like Against the Grain and The Louisville Beer Store, just to name a few.

So, why all the beer talk?…Brewfest, that’s why! Mark your calendar for next Friday, June 22nd and join us for this awesome event at Louisville Slugger Field from 4pm-10pm. Brewfest kicks off the Louisville Independent Business Alliance’s “Independents Week” which promotes the patronage of locally-owned businesses and the grassroots movement to “keep Louisville weird”. There will live music, a silent auction, merchandise & food and of course plenty to sample, plus admission is FREE.
