It’s Breeders’ Cup weekend, and the horses have already begun racing. We’re expecting great competition over the next two days, and are hopeful that the weather is going to cooperate on Saturday for the main events.
Having the Breeders’ Cup once again at Churchill Downs is a great source of pride for the Kentucky horse racing industry, and we at Mint Julep Tours are reminded of how uncommon our Commonwealth is.
We’ve built our reputation on serving and sharing many of the jewels of the Bluegrass State. Whether we’re taking someone on one of our Bourbon Trail Tours–where we highlight the bourbon-making process–taking a group of new friends on a Horse Trail Tour, sharing the sites and sounds of various Louisville attractions, or scaring up a few ghosts on our Moonshine Madness tour, we take a lot of pride in helping showcase the state.
The holidays are approaching quickly as well, and now would be a great time to plan that special tour for you and your spouse, or group outing. We’re constantly adding tour dates to our event calendar, so be sure to check it out and let us know if there’s a trip you’d like to be a part of.

If you are on Facebook (and who isn’t these days?) then we want to invite you to follow Mint Julep Tours! We love using our Facebook page to share in the fun and excitement of all things Louisville, all things Bluegrass, and all things Bourbon! When you follow us, you’ll be the first to hear about our latest events, and be able to provide us with feedback on ways we can serve you better.
Just this week, we’ve posted updates on several upcoming events, such as our Moonshine and Madness tour, corporate outings for the Breeders’ Cup in November, and invited you to join us for the Caufield’s Novelty Halloween Parade.
We’ve also been using Facebook to brag about our team. Recently, two of our team members were nominated for Rose Awards by the Greater Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau. It’s quite an honor, and we’re proud of our team members! Of course, if you’ve ever been on one of our Bourbon Trail Tours, a Horse Farm Tour, or one of our Louisville City Tours, you know how friendly and helpful MJT staff is. If you haven’t taken a tour, we invite you to do so soon. The Fall weather has started to creep in, the trees are changing, and there’s no better time to take in the sights, sounds, and “sips” of this great Commonwealth.

If you haven’t heard, Louisville has been adjusting this week to life with only two bridges. With the Sherman Minton bridge currently under inspection, access to the city from Southern Indiana has been limited to two bridges. Despite a tongue-in-cheek movement called “Shermageddon,” things have improved drastically, and the city hasn’t shut down.
Weekend traffic will be even more improved, and as Fall weather comes to town, there are a lot of great Louisville Attractions to take advantage of. Churchill Downs. Louisville Slugger Museum. Fourth Street Live. These are certainly a few that you probably think of. But, when you stop to consider the variety of opportunities and attractions available to visit in this town, it’s easy to see why it has recently been dubbed “Possibility City.”
There are so many Louisville attractions to consider, and we offer a special historic tour to introduce you to some of them. We’ll take you by the Portland Canal and the Falls of the Ohio; travel back to the Victorian age of the city with a visit of the historic homes found in Old Louisville, and learn about the history of Fourth Street before it was “Live!”
Looking for even more entertainment? You might want to check out the more eccentric side of Louisville. Bardstown Road in the Highlands neighborhood will introduce you to the “Keep Louisville Weird,” mentality of this city. There’s Lynn’s Paradise Café, an eclectic little restaurant that has been featured on The Food Network, and home of the famous “ugly lamp contest.” And, you’ll want to check out some of the quaint (and even odd) shops that encompass the Highlands as well.
If you are a coffee enthusiast, one Louisville attraction you might want to make a stop by is Heine Brothers Coffee. With several locations, you’re bound to find one. Then, be sure to grab a slice of pie or a scoop of hand-made ice cream at one of the nine Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen locations around town.
The hometown of such famous bands such as “My Morning Jacket,” Louisville is also known for its music. If you’re into such things, and are looking for the quintessential Louisville landmark for music, you would absolutely love stopping by ear x-tacy, ranked by Paste Magazine as one of the top 17 record stores in the U.S. You’ll find a wide variety of music, a great local and independent artist selection, and can pick up a few classic vinyl LPs while you’re there.
Of course, this town is known for the “Derby,” and for two weeks every spring, this city becomes the “Mecca” of horseracing and fun. The Kentucky Derby Festival is really the showcase of Louisville attractions. Kicking off with Thunder Over Louisville, and culminating in “the fastest two minutes in sports,” the Run for the Roses, this festival brings out celebrities, royalty, and an immense amount of local food, fare, and pride.
Derby is still a few months away, but there is plenty to see related to this Louisville gem. Churchill Downs and The Kentucky Derby Museum are just a couple of stops you may want to consider to learn the history.
If you’d like to schedule a tour, click on our contact form, sign up for our newsletter, or look at our Events Calendar to get more information.

Have you noticed the weather starting to turn? What was a treacherously hot and humid summer has begun its transition into the cooler, calmer days of autumn. When that happens, you know it’s an ideal time to enjoy an excursion into the rich history of fall events, festivals, and other attractions of Kentucky.
Horse Farm Tours are a great way to enjoy the changing seasons, as you will tour one of the famous horse farms found in the rolling hills of central Kentucky. We’ll be visiting our favorite spots this fall, and you will certainly want to take in the sights of the changing leaves along the way. It’s a great way to enjoy the weather, learn more about the rich history of horse farming in the commonwealth, and take a few photographs along the way.
We, of course, continue to offer our Bourbon Trail Tours, and invite you to join in one of these day-long journeys with us. We’ll hop on one of our buses and head to a couple of world-famous distilleries. You’ll learn about the process of creating whiskey bourbon, enjoy a meal, and of course, a tasting of one of these grand drinks. Don’t worry. We’re driving.

We’re super-excited to share a new program we’ve been working on….our Roll out the Barrel program. This specialty tour is a one-of-a-kind experience that you’ll be able to appreciate for years to come. Here’s how it works:
You’ll start your day at a bourbon “hot spot” in Louisville, where you’ll enjoy a wonderful brunch. Then, you’ll travel through Bourbon country and arrive at one of the famed bourbon aging warehouses. Once there, you’ll meet the master distiller, who will have a treat for you that has literally been years in the making.
The master distiller will have several barrels of bourbon–aged from nine to eleven years–that he has hand selected for you. You’ll have the opportunity to sample each of the selections and make your choice to be used as your own private label.
This is a treat that you won’t find anywhere else. If you’re interested in Rolling out the Barrel on your own private label, be sure to check out our PDF on the program by clicking here.

It’s been a great few weeks, with all the fanfare and fun that can be expected from the best in Louisville entertainment. Despite the rain, plenty of Derby fun has taken place, culminating in tomorrow’s big event.
Today is Friday, which means we’re celebrating “Louisville’s day at the Downs,” and the running of the Kentucky Oaks. This day before the Derby has become the day for local lovers of the celebration and the horses to come out to Churchill Downs to party and bet on their favorite fillies. Tomorrow will be the actual Derby, and a worldwide audience will have its eyes focused on this city and the Louisville entertainment scene.
Parties are a big part of the Derby celebration, and when it comes to Louisville entertainment during Derby week, there are a few parties that have become legendary for their celebrity draw. The Barnstable Brown party in particular has been known as the place to be to see A-list celebrities.
